Innovative Research Program on Suicide Countermeasures in FY2023: Report on Commissioned Research Results

February 5, 2025

We have published the results report of the Innovative Research Program on Suicide Countermeasures in FY2023.
This program introduced a new operating structure and invited public applications in FY2022. Out of 44 applications, 16 projects were selected.
These 16 projects are categorized into the following three fields, which were set at the time of selection.

    • Field 1: Suicide prevention for children and youth (7 projects)
    • Field 2: Analysis and approach towards high-risk groups for suicide (4 projects)
    • Field 3: Suicide countermeasures using big data, AI, etc. (5 projects)

By the end of FY2023, 5 of these projects were completed, and the remaining 11 are still ongoing. Accordingly, this results report serves as a final report for the 5 completed projects and as an interim report for the 11 ongoing projects. Some of the results have already been implemented in practice, and others are under consideration for future social implementation. We plan to publish the final results for the 11 ongoing projects in FY2025.
This program has facilitated greater exchanges between researchers from various fields, and it is anticipated that its practical applications will be further enhanced through dialogue with policymakers and professionals working on suicide countermeasures.
We hope that this report will help to promote innovation in comprehensive suicide countermeasures.
