Innovative Research Program on Suicide Countermeasures in FY2022: Report on Commissioned Research Results

June 11, 2024

Here are the results report of the Innovative Research Programme on Suicide Countermeasures in FY 2022.
During the same fiscal year, the programme renewed its management system and followed by a public call for proposals, resulting in the 16 projects selected out of 44 applications. These 16 projects are categorized into the following three newly established fields.

  1. Suicide prevention for children and youth (7 projects)
  2. Analysis and approach towards high-risk groups for suicide (4 projects)
  3. Suicide countermeasures using big data, AI, etc. (5 projects)

As these projects are ongoing in FY2023, this serves as an interim report. Some results have already been implemented, while others are transitioning into full-fledged research. Certain outcomes will be delivered after this fiscal year, while the remainder will be presented as final results in FY2025.
While this programme fosters interdisciplinary exchange among researchers in various fields, engaging between policymakers and practitioners in the field of suicide prevention is expected to enhance practicality through dialogue.
We hope that this report will provide an opportunity to innovate comprehensive suicide countermeasures.
