Immediate Report: Analysis on Suicide Trends during the COVID-19 Pandemic (Interim Report)

Identify the most immediate suicide risks and urgent issues in order to develop countermeasures responsive to the situation
According to statistics by the National Police Agency, the number of suicides in Japan continued to decline from January to June 2020, but has started to increase since July. What brought about this reversal? In cooperation with Professor Emeritus Hiroe Tsubaki of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, JSCP conducted a statistical analysis of suicide trends under the COVID-19 pandemic and compiled an urgent interim report in October 2020, holding a press conference at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Press Club.

In order to conduct a more detailed analysis, the final report will be released in June 2021, based on the finalized number of suicides in 2020 after receiving information from the relevant ministries and agencies.
